About
Sinem TAS is a filmmaker, multidisciplinary artist, and researcher pursuing a PhD in MultiMedia Art at Lisbon University’s Fine Arts Faculty, where she is affiliated with the CIEBA Research Center. She was awarded a PhD research scholarship by the FCT - Science and Technology Foundation in 2022. She is also a member of the Art and Science Advisory Board for ATRIUM International Art Exhibitions (2025).
Originally from Turkey, TAS studied International Relations at Uludag University before transitioning into photojournalism, working for Egenin Sesi in Izmir. Since moving to Lisbon in 2014, she has been active in photography and filmmaking, earning a master's degree in MultiMedia Art with a scholarship from the Ayhan Sahenk NGO.
Her 2017 short film My Kaaba is HUMAN was screened internationally, including at Cinema São Jorge during the Olhares do Mediterrâneo Film Festival. She has collaborated on various projects, such as Ospina Cali Colombia, and exhibited her work across the UK, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey.
TAS has received multiple awards, including the Frames of Integration Photography Award (2025), The Secret Life of Words Photography Competition (2024), and A-PLACE: Mapping Contest (2022). She was commissioned for a video installation for the opera Regresso (2024) and participated in the Duemila30 Film Festival in Milan. In 2022, she was invited to the Faberllull Artistic Residency in Olot, Spain.
She is the founder of Mini Kinos, a creative interdisciplinary workshop project for children.
Mini Kinos
Mini Kinos is an interdisciplinary artistic workshop where storytelling, photography, and stop-motion animation come together. Through hands-on activities, including building cameras, children explore visual storytelling by reimagining classic books and bringing characters to life.
