About
Sinem Taş is a filmmaker, multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and cultural educator.
She is currently pursuing a PhD in Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon, affiliated with the CIEBA Research Center. She is a recipient of the 2022 FCT PhD Research Scholarship and serves on the Art and Science Advisory Board of ATRIUM International Art Exhibitions (2025).
Originally from Turkey, Taş began her career in photojournalism at Egenin Sesi in Izmir after completing a degree in International Relations at Uludağ University. Since relocating to Lisbon in 2014, she has developed a practice in photography, filmmaking, and research-based multimedia art, earning her Master’s degree with support from the Ayhan Şahenk Foundation.
Her short film My Kaaba is HUMAN (2017) has been screened internationally, including at Cinema São Jorge during the Olhares do Mediterrâneo Film Festival. Her work has been exhibited and presented across Portugal, Spain, Italy, the UK, and Turkey.
Taş has received multiple awards and recognitions, including the Frames of Integration Photography Award (2025), the The Secret Life of Words Photography Competition (2024), and the A-Place: Mapping Contest (2022). She has participated in international artistic residencies, including the Doc.Lab Coimbra – Film Development Laboratory (2025) and the Faberllull Artistic Residency (2022). She was commissioned to create a video installation for Regresso (2024), presented at O’culto da Ajuda – Art and Music Centre, Lisbon. In 2025, she presented the installation AUTRUI at MUME – Museo Memorial del Exilio, Girona, Spain.
In addition to her artistic and research practice, Taş is the founder and creative director of Mini Kinos, an interdisciplinary workshop project for children that combines film, visual arts, and storytelling. Through participatory experiences, Mini Kinos fosters creativity, critical thinking, and collective imagination at the intersection of art and education.
Mini Kinos
Mini Kinos is an interdisciplinary artistic workshop where storytelling, photography, and stop-motion animation come together. Through hands-on activities, including building cameras, children explore visual storytelling by reimagining classic books and bringing characters to life.
